Yorktown has dominated New York’s Class B lacrosse league for decades.  On May 22, the Cornhuskers snagged their fourth consecutive sectional title in a 13-3 victory over Byram Hills.  On top of that, it marks the Huskers’ 37th title in the program’s history.

Entering the game with a 13-5 record, Yorktown sat in 19th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings and 6th in New York.  Byram Hills also had a successful season, going into the game at 15-4, though proved to be no match for the Huskers.

Yorktown wasted no time getting started when Connor Vercruysse netted his first of three goals just over two minutes into the game.  Vercruysse followed up 98 seconds with his second goal of the game.

From there, the Huskers was off and running, continuing to score goal after goal and shutting down any hopes Byram Hills had at an offense.  It was not until Yorktown built a 10-0 early in the third that the Bobcats found a way to get on the scoreboard.  By then, it was far too late for a comeback and Yorktown walked away with a 13-3 victory.

Vercruysse got things started early for the Huskers en route to his hat trick along with an assist. Nick Del Bene also posted three goals, boosting Yorktown’s offense even further.  Yorktown’s defense was phenomenal all night, suffocating every Bobcat as soon as they got the ball.

Now Yorktown prepares to face off against the Section 9 champ in the regional semifinals.  By continuing their excellent play, the Huskers hope to make a state title run, a tournament they have not been successful in for over a ten years.

Yorktown’s first step is the semifinal game.  The game will be held on Wednesday, May 28.

Key Players:

Connor Vercruysse- 3 goals, 1 assist

Nick Del Bene- 3 goals
